Objective #2 Bloom's Taxonomy Category--Application (apply)
Given a set of text and numerical data, learner will apply what they have learned to enter and format the data to create and save a basic spreadsheet that includes formulas. Learner will discover how formulas work by working with mystery function formulas and then recording two example formulas on the class Google docs spreadsheet with 100% accuracy.
Activities
To meet the second objective--The learner will:
(The activity in "Bold" is the one I will be highlighting the assessment piece for.)
(The activity in "Bold" is the one I will be highlighting the assessment piece for.)
- complete the readings and worksheets on how to use formulas in an excel worksheet and then test out the formulas/functions by entering simple formulas to add, subtract, multiply and divide
- apply the skills that they have learned and create a list of formulas (along with examples) that they would use in creating a gradebook--discuss on the discussion boards what was discovered
- experiment to find out how many different ways formulas can be created using Excel by complete the activity "Mystery Functions." The purpose of this activity is for the student to get practice and learn how formulas work in Excel. For each mystery formula in the spreadsheet the learner will enter several numbers for the input and examine what comes out for the result. They will determine each function by looking for patterns. This spreadsheet has 20 different discovery formulas. Learners will look for a pattern to determine what the formula is. Learner will complete the first 10 functions, there an additional 10 more for enrichment to challenge the advanced learner. Student will then record two formulas on the class Google docs spreadsheet with 100% accuracy.
- reflect the weeks learning onto a personal blog.

Assessment and Rationale for Use
The Assessment for this Objective: Google doc spreadsheet
Using Google docs learner will apply what they have learned and enter two different formulas onto an excel template on the "shared spreadsheet." This would involve all class members in an interactive activity that would generate a class "Function Spreadsheet." Completing this activity the learner would demonstrate that they knew how formulas working in Excel. This type of informal assessment would involve all learners in the class to interact together to produce one spreadsheet. This could be published publicly and then shared with others. Google docs spreadsheet is accessible to all students in the class to edit anytime and from their personal computer. The teacher can view this spreadsheet also at anytime to give feedback to all students. The only disadvantage to google docs would be if the student lost internet connection. This formative assessment piece would hopefully make everyone in the class feel like a they were a part of this online community, being part of the process. Self discover goes into the Application category of Blooms Taxonomy and this assessment goes from the passive learning into the active learning.

Plagiarism and Diversity
For this particular activity, I have chosen the activity and assessment where plagiarism really can't happen. Each student will be creating their own unique examples of formulas and add them to the class shared google docs spreadsheet. This activity has additional discovery examples as only the first 10 are to be completed by all students. There are 10 additional mystery formulas for the advanced student to test. This assessment/activity will engage all students at all levels. The spreadsheet that students are building hopefully would appeal to all learning styles. This assessment piece has great opportunity for the average learner and the advanced.
To address the topic of plagiarism that should be in any online class, I have placed a document that discusses plagiarism and that it is not accepted along with the consequences. This article (Fryer, 2004) would be used as a starting point for all students to read.
