(The activity in "Bold" is the one I will be highlighting the assessment piece for.)
- open up a blank spreadsheet and using their actual class data, design and create their actual grade book to use in their class with 100% accuracy. After creating the gradebook, students will create a how to manual of the steps needed to create a gradebook, including how to use the correct formulas. Post findings on personal blog.
- reflect the weeks learning onto a personal blog.
Assessment and Rationale for Use
The Assessment for this Objective: Online Blog & Rubric
The “How to Guide” and electronic gradebook will be posted to the student’s blog to be shared with class members. This will be a summative assessment and scored by a specific rubric. The second part to this assessment piece is a final spreadsheet created by the student. Writing the "How to Guide" will reflect all that the student has learned in this class. To be able to write it all down into a guide will demonstrate that the student fully understands how to create a gradebook using Excel. Posting along with the completed spreadsheet to their blog to be shared with others will be a way to showcase their work. The benefits of using a blog are many, students will find it "fun" and easy, so there is great motivation there for all students. Blogging will track students thinking and enable them to explore and record what they have learned at the time they reflect. Students will be able to go back to the beginning blog to see how far they have come in this class. Blogging allows the teacher to view how students are doing in the class. This will be the final blog entry and it is a great tool to use to showcase student work from beginning to end. There are a few disadvantages to blogging as it very time consuming, there is a lot of features to learn and you need an internet connection to use it.

Plagiarism and Diversity
This summative assessment piece will be an original spreadsheet designed by the student using actual student data along with teacher's input. Plagiarism won't be an issue since each spreadsheet is unique to that student. All types of learners will be able to create this final piece. There were enrichment activities for the advanced learner throughout the process. Both personal blogs and class wiki are great collaborating tools to use regardless of students age, or student demographics. They can even be used to share their work with anybody around the world!
