(The activity in "Bold" is the one I will be highlighting the assessment piece for.)
- apply the skills that they have learned and create a list of formulas (along with examples) that they would use in creating a gradebook--discuss on the discussion boards what was discovered.
- be presented with 3 electronic excel spreadsheets and they will have to analyze each by checking the entered data and formulas in the cells to determine which is the correct one. A set of guided questions will be used for this process. Learners will troubleshoot using logical deduction and use gathered information to generate a recommendation to the “teacher” as to which version they would recommend and why. Students will take an online self-assessment using Testmoz. Post results on class wiki.
- work on an enrichment activity to correct the spreadsheets (formulas) to make them 100% accurate.
- reflect the weeks learning onto a personal blog.
Assessment and Rationale for Use
The assessment for this objective: Online Self-Assessment Testmoz
Learners will post their recommendation to the class wiki, they will respond to guiding questions given by the instructor. A formative feedback assessment will be given to all using a online quiz to check for learning. Students will take an online self-assessment using Testmoz, www.testmoz.com with 100% accuracy to check for understanding. This is a formative assessment that will give instant feedback to the learner. This assessment automatically scores so that students can see instant results. This will be a great way for each learner to self assess their learning. When they view their results, the correct answer will be shown. If the learner needs to
re-take the assessment, Testmoz mixes up both the questions and the answers to that the learner will be challenged to take the test more than once. On the teacher end, the teacher will be able to view the progress of all students. On Blooms Taxonomy it is in the knowledge category. There are many advantages, it is free and very easy to use. URL can be pasted into a wkik, blog, website. It generates detailed reports and exports into Excel. Plagiarism and Diversity
There are always different types of students in all classes, I can see an activity and assessment like this one taking it to a level that most would be comfortable with. An enrichment activity would be for learners to correct the spreadsheets (formulas) to make them 100% accurate. Wikis' are a great way to collaborate and involves all learners at all levels and ages. Since this activity is a compare and contrast activity, the spreadsheets would be generated by the instructor, there is not form of plagiarism involved in this activity. Testmoz would be used as a self assessment so plagiarism won't be a problem. For this particular assessment, the online assessment, I think this is the easiest form of self-assessment and the teacher generated questions can be created with all types of students in mind.
